About Latvia:
The Republic of Latvia consists of four major regions and is part of the European Union with an area of 64,589 km2. The country is characterized by its maritime climate, with mild winters and cool summers. What distinguishes Latvia from others is its topography, which consists of low plains only. With a total population of over 1.9 million, and its capital Riga is the most populous of its cities. Latvian culture is a mix of Scandinavian and European aspects influenced by Germanic traditions, there is a multinational mix and more than half of the population follow the Christian faith, and the official language spoken among them is Latvian. The country’s official currency is the euro, and the country has an open economy, with a gross domestic product of about $38.8 billion USD, and mostly made up of two main sectors, which are services and industry. Latvia has a variety of historical and natural tourist destinations, as it has two UNESCO World Heritage sites scattered across the country that are visited by more than 8 million tourists every year.
