About Syria:
The Republic of Syria is located in the Middle East on the borders with Iraq, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon and Turkey, with an area of 185,180 km2. The country is characterized by its Mediterranean climate and mountainous terrain with plain lands. The total population is 17.5 million, and its capital, Damascus, is the most crowded among its cities. The culture of Syria is dominated by ancient traditions, as it is characterized by a multinational and multicultural mix with the presence of 87% of the Muslim population, and Arabic is spoken among them as the official language. The official currency is the Syrian pound, and the country has an open economy, with a gross domestic product of about $56 billion, with the agriculture, industry and services sector all playing an important role in the GDP. Syria is characterized by a variety of tourist, cultural and natural destinations and attractions as it has 6 UNESCO World Heritage sites in addition to many attractions spread across the country, however, Syria is still struggling to attract tourists from outside the region as a result of the general security concern.
