    Launched in 2021, the Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP) grants U/HNWIs indefinite residency through substantial investments in Malta.

    Financial Requirements

    Investors wishing to obtain Maltese residence status through the Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP) are required to make all of the below investments:

    Additionally, investors must rent a residential real estate for a minimum annual value of €10,000/€12,000 (depending on location).

    The real estate must be kept for a minimum period of 5 years following the investment. After that period, a residential real estate  of any amount must be kept indefinitely to maintain the residence status.

    FAQ:

    What is the validity period of the residence card?

    The residence card is valid for a period of 5 years or until cut-off dates, there is also 16.

    Do holders of residency in Malta have permission to travel visa-free across Europe?
    Yes, if you hold the MPRP residence card you are eligible for visa-free travel to the Schengen countries for a maximum period of 90 days within a 180 day period.
    Can I sell the property and still have my residency card in Malta?

    Whilst in principle this is true one needs to keep a property in Malta to keep the residency cards.

    Will the Malta residency automatically lead to Malta citizenship?
    No. A beneficiary may however submit an application for the acquisition of Maltese citizenship by naturalization after continuously residing in Malta for a minimum period of 5 years. The beneficiary should have resided in Malta throughout the 12 months immediately before the date of application and 4 years out of the preceding 6-year period.
    Can I include my family with my Malta residency application?
    Yes. The main applicant can include dependents, such as a spouse, children, parents, and grandparents who are principally dependent on the main applicant.
    Once a dependent reaches his/her 27th birthday, would he/she automatically lose the right of residence in Malta?
    No, the previous law that stated dependents lose their right of residence in Malta upon reaching 27 years of age is no longer applicable.
    When minor children under MPRP reach the age of 18, do they lose their Malta residence status?

    They do not need to satisfy criteria after the attainment of the card.

    Do I have to travel to Malta during the application process?
    No, the application process can be completed remotely, however, you will be required to travel to Malta at a later stage for the capturing of your biometric data.
    Is it necessary to either relocate to Malta or spend a certain minimum amount of time in Malta each year in order to be eligible for residency?

    There is no minimum stay requirement to keep permanent residency in Malta through the MPRP.
